ONE DAY EXPLORER WITH OVERNIGHT 10am to 9am next day.
£100pp (16+) : £60pp (under 16) : £120 (1 to 1, individual private booking for adult 18+)
Until you sleep under the canopy of the trees and stars and soak in the woodland night-life your bushcraft experience will never be complete, so this is an extended one day course with the addition of waking up with the dawn chorus. On your arrival, you will immediately be shown how to set up your nest for the night with a tarp/hammock set-up, a few simple quick release knots and an insight into other set-ups. Tarps and hammocks are available depending on group numbers. You must bring a sleeping bag that is adequate for the season and a camping mat to insulate your hammock. A bivvy bag is required during Autumn / Winter. The day and evening will cover bushcraft skills & activities such as knife/axe skills & carving techniques for camp essentials & spoon carving, tree/plant ID & uses, fire techniques & fire by friction with the bow drill, insights into primitive technology, natural history of bats (spring/summer) and nettle & willow cordage making. Breakfast is provided for you, but all other meals/snacks including eating utensils must be brought with you. Tea/coffee/water/cooking utensils are supplied. Preference to the breakfast menu must be arranged when booking. MENU: Veggie or meat burgers or sausages in pitta bread and salad with or without fruit & Greek yoghurt. Vegan will also be catered for. All waste material must be taken away with you and your night camp must be left how it was found (zero plastics & litter). PLEASE NOTE: – It is essential to be warm, dry, comfortable and prepared during your overnight stay, so please refer to THE KIT LIST.
TWO DAY EXPLORER WITH OVERNIGHT (10am – 4pm next day)
£160pp (16+) : £80 (under 16) : £180 (1 to 1, individual private booking for adult 18+)
A great course for you to get stuck into a variety of bushcraft skills and have the time to really get to grips with the more demanding activities. At the same time you can enjoy a bit of wilderness living and experience the ambience of woodland at night time. You will be shown how to set up your tarp/hammock or basha efficiently and safely and use a variety of quick release knots. Tarps and hammocks are available depending on group numbers. You must bring a sleeping bag that is adequate for the season and a camping mat to insulate your hammock. A bivvy bag is advisable during Autumn/Winter. Over the two days you will become proficient in using knife, axe and saw. You will source material for carving spoons, practical items and a cooking structure. You will practice fire by friction, learn how to build your own bow-drill kit, learn about fire wood properties, fire lays and create fire from scratch using various techniques and tinder. You will use plant fibres to make cordage, filter and purify water and learn how to maintain your knife to keep it sharp and clean. Tree and plant identification, their uses and properties, correct pruning and the importance of coppice, conservation and sustainable harvesting will all be referred to throughout the course. The evening is your own to hone skills and relax around the fire. During Spring/Summer nights there will be an optional session on the natural history of bats with a bat walk near by.
Food for an evening meal is provided for a group cook-up, so please specify vegetarian, vegan or not when booking. All other meals/snacks including eating utensils must be brought with you. Tea/coffee/water/cooking utensils are supplied. All waste material must be taken away with you and your overnight camp area left as found (zero plastics).
