8 – 15yrs MUST be accompanied by a minimum of 1 paying adult.

This course appeals to adults, families and mixed groups. There are activities that will appeal to the younger participants as well as more demanding tasks for adults. At the end of this day you will have covered a number of skills that will give you the confidence to spend more time in a woodland environment. Whilst learning some of the basic essentials, you will have time to get to grips with a number of skills such as efficient knife/axe work and carving, cordage making, fire making techniques and fire by friction with the bow drill. You will be shown how to build an Emergency shelter and learn a few quick release knots for a tarp canopy or hammock. Tree & plant ID, uses and properties, sustainable harvesting, pruning, natural history and other bushcraft activities will be referred to during the day. Bring your lunch with you (you are welcome to bring food to cook on the fire). Water, tea, coffee is available. If you intend to bring in food to cook, let us know in advance so we can supply the cooking utensils. Eating/drinking utensils must be brought with you and all waste material must be taken away with you. Bushcraft camp consists of a shelter, kitchen and compost toilet.
BUSHCRAFT WOODLAND CRAFTS/SPOON CARVING
£70pp (16+): £80 for individual adult (1 to 1) private booking
This course appeals to the novice as well as the more experienced individual. A relaxing and very rewarding day devoted to the woodland craft of carving. During this day, you will learn how to handle a knife efficiently and safely and apply a variety of carving techniques and power cuts to make a number of items. Tree species & wood properties will be discussed. You will use a folding saw to source material and prune correctly. Axe work will be incorporated, not just in the preparation of blanks for spoons, but for carving too. You will be taken through a number of tasks from carving simple camp items to sourcing and preparing material for carving spoons & spatulas. Bushcraft knives, carving knives, crooked knives, axes & saws are all supplied. Tool maintenance will be covered so you can keep your knife sharp & clean. Also aftercare advice for the treatment of your spoons which, of course, you will take away with you.
Safety & enjoyment are the priorities in this course and you are not expected to use any carving techniques that you are uncomfortable with. One to one tuition is delivered throughout every stage of the course. Be warned though as copious amounts of tea are often consumed on this course. Bring lunch with you and you are also welcome to bring in food to cook on the fire. Water, tea & coffee is available. Bushcraft camp consists of a shelter, kitchen & compost toilet.
