This course appeals to families and mixed groups as there are activities that will appeal to the younger participants as well as more demanding tasks for adults. At the end of this day you will have covered a number of skills that will give the confidence to spend more time in a woodland environment. Whilst learning some of the basic essentials, you will have time to get to grips with one or two skills such as efficient knife/axe work and carving, cordage making, effective fire making techniques and try your hand at the bow drill (fire by friction). You will be shown how to build an Emergency shelter and learn a few quick release knots for a tarp canopy or hammock. Tree ID, uses and properties, sustainable harvesting, pruning, natural history and other bushcraft activities will be referred to during the day. Bring your lunch with you (you are welcome to bring food to cook on the fire). Hot/cold drinks are available.

BUSHCRAFT SPOON CARVING
£60pp (16+): £80 for individual private booking
This course appeals to the novice as well as the more experienced individual, or, simply anyone who fancies whittling and chilling around a fire with an endless supply of tea. A day devoted to the woodland craft of carving. During this day, you will learn how to handle a knife efficiently and apply a variety of carving techniques and power cuts to make a number of items. Axe work will be incorporated, not just in the preparation of blanks, but for carving too. You will use a folding saw when sourcing and preparing material suitable for carving. You will be taken through a number of tasks from simple camp items such as a cooking structure to spatulas, butter knives, and spoons using crook knives. Tool maintenance will be covered so you can keep your knife sharp enough to cut paper. Also aftercare advice for the treatment of your spoons which you will take home with you. All tools are supplied.
COURSES ARE AVAILABLE AT ALL TIMES OF THE YEAR AND BOOKINGS ARE TAKEN ON DEMAND.
- DEPOSIT of £10 for Half Day. £30 1&2 Day required to secure your booking. By bank transfer or cheque. (Deposit cheques are returned to you on day of course, so full payment on the day). Receipt of deposit will be confirmed by email.
