This course appeals to families and mixed age groups as there are activities that appeal to the younger participants as well as more demanding tasks for adults.
At the end of this day you will have covered a number of skills that will give you the confidence to spend more time in a woodland environment. While learning some of the basic essentials, you will have time to get to grips with one or two skills such as efficient knife / axe work and carving, cordage making, effective fire making techniques and try your hand at the bow drill (fire by friction). You will be shown how to build a debris shelter and learn a few quick release knots for a tarp canopy & hammock. Tree ID, uses & properties, sustainable harvesting, pruning, natural history and other bushcraft activities will be refered to during the day.
Bring your lunch with you (you are welcome to bring food to cook on fire). Hot/cold drinks are available.

This course appeals to the novice as well as the more experienced or simply anyone who fancies whittling and chilling around a fire with an endless supply of tea.
A day devoted to the woodland craft of carving. During the day you will learn how to handle a knife efficiently and apply a variety of carving techniques and power cuts to make a number of items. Axe work will be incorporared not just in the preperation of blanks but for carving too. You will use a folding saw when sourcing and preparing material suitable for carving.
You will be taken through a number of tasks from simple camp items, a cooking structure to spatulas, butter knives and spoons using crook knives. Tool maintenance will be covered, so you can keep your knife sharp enough to slice paper and advice on after treatment of spoons which you will take home with you.
